🎶 Dreams and Visions – A Transatlantic Celebration of Choral Music

Certainly, Marcus. Here’s a detailed and engaging blog post suitable for the SWPC website, reflecting the tone and values of your organisation, while celebrating the collaboration with Woodlands Chorale and the audience response.

🎶 Dreams and Visions – A Transatlantic Celebration of Choral Music

Posted 16 June 2025by South West Philharmonia & Chorus

On 15th June 2025, the Theatre Royal Plymouth was filled to capacity for a truly unforgettable evening of music-making, as South West Philharmonia & Chorus had the honour of hosting The Woodlands Chorale from Houston, Texas as part of their Perform International UK Tour.

The programme, titled Dreams and Visions, was a powerful and uplifting celebration of British and American choral music, showcasing a rich variety of styles, textures, and cultural traditions. The performance featured music that spanned folk, gospel, sacred and contemporary classical repertoires—brought to life by the combined voices of SWPC, members of our orchestra, and our incredible guests from across the Atlantic.

🎵 A Shared Stage, A Shared Vision

The baton was shared between Marcus Alleyne, Artistic Director of SWPC, and Dr Mark Marotto, Director of Music for The Woodlands Chorale. The collaboration between these two ensembles was seamless, with each bringing their unique character to the stage—culminating in a joint performance in the second half that was described by audience members as “amazing” and “truly beautiful.”

From soul-stirring solos to full choral majesty, the evening celebrated the joy of shared musical purpose and international friendship. The concert also featured a number of solo and small group items, adding even more colour and contrast to an already rich and moving programme.

💬 What You Said

The audience feedback was overwhelming and deeply appreciated. Here are just a few reflections from those who joined us:

“I attend SWPC events frequently and my 85-year-old mother enjoys them too. I find the whole experience an escapism from reality. I allow my mind to wander with the musicality. It is such an awesome experience.”
“I wasn’t sure what to expect, but as a member of Rock Choir who accompanied Marcus to New York earlier this year, I was curious. It was fabulous! So different to what I’m used to and the harmonies were stunning. When both choirs came together, it was magical.”
“Truly a wonderful experience together with the Woodlands Chorale. Beautiful voices and a brilliant choice of repertoire.”
“Fantastic evening—most enjoyable. Loved every minute.”
“A lovely venue for a superb evening of music and song.”
“Communication from the choir is always excellent, and last night’s concert was no exception—thank you!”

We’re always grateful for your kind words, encouragement, and feedback—positive and constructive. We’re also aware of a few front-row ticketing issues and we’re working with the venue to ensure that doesn’t happen again in future events. Your comfort and experience remain a priority for us.
