Building Community Through Music: A SWPAC Summer Update
As the summer draws on and we prepare to bring our season to a triumphant close, we’re delighted to share a few exciting updates from South West Philharmonia & Chorus. From enriching our members’ experience to welcoming new faces and deepening musical understanding, there’s a real buzz building at SWPAC HQ.
🎼 Access to Music Theory – Making it Make Sense
We know that music theory can sometimes feel like a distant mountain to climb – full of dots, squiggles and strange Italian words. That’s why we’ve been working hard behind the scenes to create new accessible resources to support our members, whether they’re picking up a score for the first time or brushing up ahead of a performance.
Our upcoming SWPAC Music Theory Workbook, developed with both orchestral players and choral singers in mind, includes easy-to-follow explanations, interactive questions, visual aids, and even video QR codes. It’s just one of the ways we’re breaking down barriers to participation and helping everyone grow in confidence.
🌟 Supporter Packages – Coming Soon!
We’re also thrilled to be getting ready to launch a brand-new season of Supporter Packages. These will give our community more ways to get involved, show support, and enjoy exclusive benefits – from reserved seating and early ticket access to behind-the-scenes updates and special acknowledgements in programmes.
With these packages, you’re not just attending a concert – you’re becoming part of our story.
🎶 Last Night of the Proms – Our Grand Finale
Join us on Saturday 13th September for our much-anticipated Last Night of the Proms performance at St Andrews Church, Plymouth. Expect all the traditional favourites (bring your flags!), powerful orchestral moments, and uplifting choral classics. We’re pulling out all the stops to bring this season to a celebratory close.
Tickets are selling fast, so don’t miss your chance to be part of the spectacle.🎟️ Book now at www.swapc.co.uk
🎤 Come & Sing – A Warm Welcome Awaits
Our recent Come and Sing Day was a true highlight of the summer. Here's what some of our wonderful guests had to say:
"I appreciate how much you feel for your choir and orchestra. Both Dawn and I loved joining you yesterday and wished we were closer, although Dawn was somewhat shocked being asked to sing in Latin and French! I have to say your members were all so welcoming and helpful."– Come & Sing Participant
"Really enjoyed the choir practice, and love the choral sound of Dirait-on. I’d love to join you in September, everyone was so helpful and kind."
We couldn’t ask for kinder words – and we can’t wait to welcome even more new members at our next open day on:
🗓️ Sunday 21st September🕑 2–5pm📍 Stoke Methodist Church, Plymouth
Whether you’re a seasoned singer, a lapsed instrumentalist, or a complete beginner, we’d love to see you there. There’s no audition, no pressure – just great music, friendly faces, and a chance to do something extraordinary.
SWPAC is more than a choir and orchestra – it’s a community. We’re building something special here in the South West, and we’d love you to be part of it.
Stay connected with us via social media, join us at a rehearsal, or drop us a line if you’d like to learn more.
